Pink Gellac gel nail polish swatches and first impression *

*PR SAMPLE

This week I was sent the starter gel nail polish kit from Pink Gellac to review. As a fully qualified nail technician I've only used "professional only" products so was interested to see how an at home brand compared to that.

Pink Gellac starter kit

The Pink Gellac starter kit contains everything you need to get started with gel nail polishes at home, it has the tools for the preparation, the base, colour and topcoat and an LED lamp. The colour in this pack was 156 Tropical a bright, almost neon, coraly pink.

Instructions are included in the pack and they were exactly how I've been taught to apply gel polishes. Firstly I prepped my nails by pushing back the cuticles, giving them a very light buff, then using the cleanser to remove any dust and grease and to dehydrate the nails. When I'm doing my own nails I always leave the cleansing until just before I do them as it's really easy to pick dust etc up back onto them whilst polishing the other fingers.
I applied a really thin layer of the base coat then cured it for 15 seconds. Next I applied a really thin layer of colour and cured that for 60 seconds, I needed to do 3 coats of the colour, curing in between each one, for full opacity. Lastly I applied a really thin layer of topcoat and cured that for 60 seconds. And then they were finished :)

The gel polish applied perfectly, it was really easy to work with and cured in the times the instructions stated. The colour included, 156 Tropical, is just gorgeous, it's a colour I'd have chosen for myself and it will look even better in the summer with a suntan.

Comparing it to my usual gel polish brand I can't find any difference at all in the finished look! The only difference with the application was that this topcoat doesn't leave a tacky (inhibition) layer that needs wiping when you've finished.

From my first impression I'd definitely recommend it if you're thinking of doing gel polishes yourself at home. I'm going to be keeping it on so I can test the wear time and I'll be doing an update in 10-14 days when I take it off of how well it lasted and how easy it was to take off.

You can find this starter kit here and it is currently on offer for just £54.99.

    1. As a nail tech I was really surprised that there was no difference between this and the professional-only brands.
I'd recommend this kit if you wanted to give it a go yourself, Though it is nice to pamper yourself sometimes and have them done in a salon isn't it.

    2. I usually use Sensationail. I find them the best but there's some cheaper ones off eBay that work nicely too. The overall success is all in the removal I think xx

    3. Oh I have seen a few people use Sensationail. I'm not looking forward to the removal, it's ages since I've soaked gel polish off!

  13. Goodness nail polish is expensive! Great to find a product you can use at home though that compares favourably with what you'd get in a salon.
